21 N. Main StreetWe dropped the kids off to spend the night at Nana and Grandpa’s, then J and I headed back home for an evening of quiet. We hung out at their place for a while and watched the kids as they went swimming in the lake but just before dinner time, J and I headed back to Kalamazoo by ourselves.
I say “just before dinner” but it was “just before dinner” for even the earliest of dinner eaters. Yeah..it was 3:00, but we didn’t eat lunch after eating a late breakfast and we wanted to hit a new place in downtown Three Rivers.
Landmark Taphouse & Grill is on North Main Street which is also BL US-131 through downtown Three Rivers. It’s one of the old brick buildings connected to the buildings on either side of it with the restaurant at street level and space for commercial or residential above it. Part of the building used to be Pub 21 with the other half being a totally separate space. Landmark has brought the two spaces together.
We were told to sit wherever when we walked in. We passed the bar area and headed up the ramp that connects what used to be two separate business. J asked if we had eaten in the building before thinking it felt familiar. She was right. We hadn’t been in this building before but it feels very similar to Roosters Wing Shack across the street which also took two distinct areas and connected them together to make one larger restaurant.
The bar really highlights some of the best parts of this old building. The wood floors and the exposed brick walls run throughout the space. Above the bar is a painted logo that really pops behind the lamps hanging from the exposed ceiling.
The dining room is really similar but the walls are covered in dry wall and neutrally painted. The black furniture is a stark contrast to the brightness of the walls and shiny wood floor.
The drink menu isn’t huge and J was disappointed that all the ciders have been crossed off since they sourced the cider from Corey Lake Orchards and they’re no longer producing the sweet, delicious drinks. She picked a Blueberry Lemonade Shandy from Saugatuck Brewing instead while I chose the Boss Tweed from Old Nation.
We started with an appetizer because..why not? We picked the Loaded Fries. The fresh cut fries are topped with a garlic Parmesan and Beer Cheese sauce, bacon, and scallions. The fries were tasty. There was enough of the cheese sauce that we needed forks to eat it. The bacon added a little saltiness to the creamy cheese.
My pick for a sandwich was the Bleu Cheese and Pork Belly burger. The fresh pressed burger was topped with slow cooked pork belly and a lot of tangy bleu cheese. It also comes with the usual lettuce, tomato, and mayo but I left the mayo off. Couldn’t imagine it would add anything. The use of pork belly instead of bacon is a bold move and it was a really tasty one. The sandwich came with more of those fresh cut, crispy, golden brown fries.
J picked the Nuts About Berries salad. The large bowl is mixed greens, candied pecans, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, feta cheese and a delicious orange poppyseed dressing. J really liked the dressing. The salad is one of her favorite combinations of fresh berries, nuts, and cheese. She cleaned her bowl.
Our bill was a little over $50 which included an appetizer and a couple of beers.
Landmark Taphouse & Grill is a solid pub. The building is a great space, the food is delicious and they have a small but solid beer list. We drive through Three Rivers quite a bit and have seen the signs for this place for quite a while. It’s worth a stop if you’re driving through town or just looking for a good place to take a road trip to.
