I had to do it.

One last night in St. Louis. I had to do it.

I had to get another Imo’s Pizza.

We got back to our hotel after a long day of work around 11:00. I was hungry and thirsty but didn’t really know where to go. There were a couple of bars in the area that were still open but that felt like too much. I really just wanted to put on a pair of sweatpants, eat, and go to bed.

I was really excited to find an Imo’s Pizza within walking distance. It was about a ten minute walk and a St. Louis pizza before leaving the town the next day sounded amazing.

Imo’s Pizza in the Central West End neighborhood is on Forest Park Avenue and Taylor Avenue is a small shopping center. At 11:30 at night, it was the only thing open when I walked up. This Central West End location is one of about 100 Imo’s location in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas.

I put an order in online for a small pepperoni and jalapeno pizza plus an order of Provel Bites and a 2-liter of Coke. The cost for the pizza, appetizer, and drink was right around $27.

I walked in to Imo’s just like I did on my previous stop in Chesterfield. It was almost closing time and I was probably one of the last orders of the night. The order/pick up counter was in the back of the dining room. There was just one guy working and he looked like he was starting to clean up for the night. He asked for my name. I gave it to him and he headed to the Cambro to grab my boxes.

I was again surprised that this was more than just a carry-out pizza restaurant. There are about a half dozen tables but by the time I got there, all the chairs had been put up for the night.

It was about a ten minute walk back to my hotel and I really couldn’t wait to get there.

When I did, I started with the Provel bites. They come in either orders of 20 or 60. I got the 20 and that was plenty. These are small cheese curd type fried appetizers but instead of cheese curds, it’s made with Provel cheese. I ate a lot of Provel cheese on this trip but when in Rome…… The bites come with a side of marinara but I was good without it. These little crispy nuggets of St. Louis cheese were delicious without it.

I only got a small pizza because I didn’t need much leftovers. We were leaving in the morning so I didn’t have to eat on this one for a couple of days. I figured I’d most of it before bed then have a few slices for breakfast.

I got pepperoni and jalapeno just to do something a little different. Imo’s Pizza, as I described in my last blog, is thin and crispy pizza cut in to squares and topped with Provel cheese instead of mozzarella. It’s a super unique and polarizing flavor but it’s one I really like. My family really doesn’t so I figured if I was on t his trip without them, I would get as much Provel as I could. This pizza was delicious and I was sad it will be quite a while before I get another one.

I really like Imo’s Pizza. I love the super thin crust and I love the uniqueness of the Provel cheese. I know it will be a while before I get another one….I don’t go to St. Louis all that often…and that makes me sad.
