Never miss a chance for pizza on a Friday night.

I worked over Thanksgiving in Mt. Pleasant. Thursday I was able to get dinner from Legends Diner at Soaring Eagle Casino. Friday, I started the day with Cops & Donuts then we had Panera for lunch at my job site.

My day ended around 4:00 and I was heading back to Kalamazoo. I still had a couple more side jobs that weekend back home and I wanted to see my family a little bit over the long (for everyone else) holiday weekend.

I can’t pass up a Friday night pizza though. I had kind of scouted places out hoping that someone would open for dinner on Thanksgiving but no one did. There was a place close to my Friday job site that had really good reviews and online ordering. As we were packing up for the day, I put in an order to grab for the drive home.

Pizza King is on South Mission Street in Mt. Pleasant at the intersection with South Maple Street. The pizzeria takes up two storefronts in a small shopping plaza on the west side of the road not too far from Central Michigan University.

I put in an order for a 16″ Meat Pizza. The online ordering told me it’d be ready in about 20 minutes but I underestimated how much time we had left for clean up. It was a little closer to 40 by the time I got there to pick it up.

As soon as you walk in the door, there’s an order counter in front of the kitchen. I could see a couple of guys in the back making pizzas but it took a few minutes for a third person to walk around the corner to see me. He grabbed my pizza out of the warming container. I had already paid online but they had bottles of 20 oz Pepsi. I grabbed two of those and paid separately so I didn’t have to stop at a gas station on my way home.

There is a dine in area at the restaurant with quite a few tables. I was ready to get on the road so I just went back to my truck, ate a couple of slices then started heading towards Kalamazoo.

The regular crust at Pizza King is a thin crust. I like thin crusts so that was a bonus. That crust was topped heavily with pepperoni, ham, sausage, bacon, and ground beef. It sounds like complaining when I say there was so much meat on the pizza that it was hard to pick up but that’s not complaining.

I ate the first few slices while standing in the parking lot next to the building. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to pick up one of the slices to eat while driving. The weight of meat weighed it down to where I would need two hands. I did figure out a way to stack two slices on top of each other and kind of eat it like a New York slice but I only attempted that once. I wasn’t super hungry anyway so I took about half of the pizza home so I would have breakfast Saturday morning. Cold pizza is the best Saturday AM breakfast.

I wasn’t super sure I even wanted a pizza before I left Mt. Pleasant but I’m super glad I decided I couldn’t pass it up. The pizza was delicious. The hand tossed thin crust is my favorite kind of pizza (outside of the Chicago tavern crust) and this pizza was worth the extra 20 minutes it extended my day in Mt. Pleasant.
