Our first day in Miami was a pretty long day. I got up around 2:30 AM for a 6:00 AM flight out of Grand Rapids. We got to Miami just before noon and by the time we got our car, got to the hotel, ate lunch, and finished the work we still needed to accomplish that day, I was beat.

We both figured we were going to bed early that night to get ready for the next three days of long workdays. As I was laying in bed, I realized I was thirsty. I didn’t have anything in my room to drink and because it’s a Marriott, there are no vending machines on the floors.

I did a quick Google search to find a nearby Publix. I figured I could grab some Pepsi and a couple six packs of local beer. That should be enough to keep me hydrated for four days.

The Publix I found wasn’t too far from my hotel. On the way there, I passed a little taco stand. It was getting a little late but I figured if the open sign was still lit when I passed by again, I’d stop for a couple of tacos.

Guacamole Station is on Federal Highway in Dania Beach between 1st and 2nd Streets just south of the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. The small building was previously an ice cream shop and they have the same walk up window service you expect at places like that.

The menu is pretty simple. Tacos and quesadillas plus a few different kinds of guacamole. As weird as it sounds, I don’t really like guacamole so I passed on that.

I ordered three steak tacos and an order of chips and salsa. I wasn’t super hungry and the tacos were kind of expensive so I did three instead of my usual five.

There is no inside seating…because this used to be an ice cream place…also it’s Miami so it’s not like it’s ever cold…but there is some covered outside seating on the backside of the building. I sat there while I waited for my food to be put together.

It took less than five minutes for my name to be called and for a small bag filled with food to be handed through the window. I headed back to my hotel, which was only a few minutes away, and quickly unwrapped all that was waiting inside.

I started with the chips because I was looking forward to the salsa…but there was no salsa. The chips were delicious on their own though. They looked pretty fresh and had that light, airy texture you don’t get from mass produced chips.

The three tacos came with two containers of green sauce…but I usually prefer the red. Each taco had to grilled tortillas filled with soft, tender steak and cilantro. The tacos were good, but they were a little bland. I did use the green sauce that came with the meal but, like I said, green sauce isn’t my favorite so while it helped some, it didn’t help as much as some red sauce would have.

The cost for my meal was just under $15 before.

Guacamole Station was quick and it filled a hole. I eat a lot of tacos and while these won’t rank up there with some of the best ones, the tacos were pretty solid and enjoyable to eat.
